Up until 1st July 2011 DVD/Blu-ray works being submitted for classification were required to be submitted with a paper submission form.  These have now been phased out and all submissions can now be made using the BBFC Extranet.  The extranet service has several advantages:
- saving time writing submission forms – particularly for multiple episode submissions.
- allowing the BBFC to research the work 24hrs earlier, thereby speeding the process up when the disc is delivered
- utilising your BBFC extranet account to its fullest, including having the ability to accept classification decisions online rather than via the paper Interim Clearance Form, should see further improvements in turnaround times
- less paper usage is environmentally friendly and in line with the BBFC’s ‘green policy’
If you do not have an extranet account please contact the IT Helpdesk.
Making a Submission
The submission service will ask you to include a number of pieces of information to allow the BBFC to research the works classification history and to determine whether it has been classified previously. Â There are also a number of different services that can be requested:
Comparisons
If the work has been previously classified in the UK before, it might qualify for processing as a Distributor Change, Technical Comparison or 3D/2D Comparison. For your work to be processed in one of these ways the appropriate field will need to be ticked on the submission form. Either of these processes can affect the fee charged so it is essential that the correct box is ticked on the submission form and as much information as possible be provided to enable the previous version(s) to be identified.
Please see Comparisons for further information.
Advice viewings
The BBFC recognises that it may be useful for companies to receive an indication of the category a work is likely to receive in advance of a finished version being assembled. Companies may also find it useful to get an indication of the likely category of a finished product that they are considering acquiring or to get advice regarding a small part of a larger work about which they have concerns.
Please refer to advice viewings for more information
BBFC.online classification
All members of BBFC.online are able to indicate whether they require an online classification for their work in conjunction with a Video Recordings Act classification. If you are not a member and would like more information about the scheme then please click here.
Ignore Unlisted Elements
You can ask us to only classify certain elements on a submitted disc or to classify everything on the disc by ticking either ‘ignore unlisted elements’ or ‘classify all elements on disc’. Please detail all elements that require classification on the accompanying table.
